Indian position heightened in the global scenario (09-07-08)

The outcome of the courteous conference of the two highly acclaimed leaders of both US and India, viz. President George W. Bush and Prime minister Manmohan Singh of India respectively, is convinced to bring before a new awakening, consciousness and brighter prospects. The way the two leaders exchanged their views on a number of pertinent subjects and showered praises on each other made everyone comprehend the rising importance of India in the international spectrum. There is hardly any doubt, in spite of the impetuous obstacle of the apparatchiks in the Indian scenario, that the Indo-US nuclear deal is significant for India and is destined to fabricate or act upon the national foreign policy in the coming years.

This was also realized by the prudent and pragmatic PM that made him adopt a defiant stance against the undue pressure from Left for months, if not more. The same urge was also found when he, without any further delay, took a two-hour drive from Sapporo to meet Bush in the hot springs resort of Hotel Windsor on Mt Poromoi on the sidelines of the G-8 summit.

The two leaders went through a thorough discussion on the progress of the very deal for 50 minutes at a stretch and concentrated on subjects like environment, free trade and the Doha round of negotiations. The congenial atmosphere that was present in the meeting also had its reflection in the subsequent press conference where both of Dr Singh and Bush appeared to be relaxed. It must be stated that the roily political developments in India, as it seemed, hardly had any effect on the PM and his deliberations.

All’s well that ends well! How far India can exploit from this deal remains to be seen.
